Written in her best penmanship on small white index cards, Great Gram took a few of her home cooking favorites and passed them on to me. I appreciated them when I received them almost 10 years ago, but they are priceless to me now! Her recipes are so much more than words on paper. They are like a time capsule from her life! I wish I knew the stories behind each one. Did her children beg her to make these muffins every summer? Was the bean salad her go-to dish to bring to a potluck dinner?
As a mother to four little ones of my own, these types of questions are incredibly thought-provoking to me. My family is creating so many memories in the kitchen these days and I'd love to remember all of our favorites. So this is my plan that I've started for 2014:
I'm constantly trying new recipes, but occasionally, one really stands out as a favorite. I've started jotting down the recipes in a simple notebook, along with a few little notes. This seriously takes minutes! Here are a few things I've written down, in case you need some ideas:
